![]() ![]() In the 13" MacBook Pro, it is the only graphics processor. The new Core i5 and i7 processors also have an integrated graphics processor. This is a really watered down and non-technical explanation. Some Core i7 processors (found in the 15 & 17" MacBook Pros) are true quad-core processors with each core supporting hyperthreading (meaning internally, they "pretend" to have 8 cores). This lets your system run a bit faster as it can do more in the same amount of time. but they are capable of running 4 threads (meaning internally, they "pretend" to have 4 cores). The Core i5 and some Core i7 processors are a much newer technology and are dual core as well. ![]() the Core Duo is a dual core processor capable of running two threads (meaning internally, it can work like it has two processors). It's not specific to Macs and can be somewhat technical. you're best Googling for that information. With respect to the differences between a Core Duo and an i5/i7. Lion requires at least a Core 2 Duo (or later) processor. If you actually have a Core Duo and not a Core "2" Duo, you will not be able to upgrade to Lion. You would need to purchase a new MacBook Pro with one of the newer processors if you wanted to upgrade. for starters, you cannot upgrade the processor in your MacBook Pro. ![]()
